Collin County
residents should expect the water restrictions to last through 2007.
The point of this site is to ensure our clients are in compliance
with the restrictions as to avoid penalties. Likewise, maximizing
your watering time will greatly help prevent the decline of your
turf, trees and shrubs.
The stage 3
water restrictions limit watering to once a week via an irrigation
system. Additional hand watering with a shut off nozzle is permitted
during certain hours. Most cities restrictions began on June 1st
of 2006. .
If you have
flowers, new sod, new plants or trees less than three years old;
additional hand watering is a must. Established turf can survive
without serious decline if given up to one inch of water per week.
Recommended Irrigation Timer Configuration
Assuming your
trash day is Wednesday and you are not allowed to water between
9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., you may only water on Wednesday. Therefore,
you may water from 12:01 a.m. until 8:59 a.m. Wednesday morning
and again from 7:01 p.m. until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday night.
| 1. |
Turn
off all day’s except Wednesday on your irrigation timer.
|
| 2. |
Set
each zones watering time to 20 or 30 minutes. |
| |
a. |
Determine
how many zones you have |
| |
b. |
Multiply
the number of zones by 20 or 30 minutes to ensure you have enough
time to make it through each zone for 30 minutes and still stay
within the allowed watering time frame |
| 3. |
Set
multiple start times. Set ‘start time 1’ to 12:01
a.m. and ‘start time 2’ to 7:01 p.m. |
This example
will allow you to water twice on Wednesday. Many of us at CitiTurf
will actually water more than twice. For example, if you only have
six zones and you water each zone for 30 minutes you can cycle through
all of your zones in 3 hours. Therefore, between the hours of 12:01
a.m. and 8:59 a.m. you could actually run through each zone twice.
The goal is to apply as much water as possible without wasting it
through run off.
